Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: “Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.” (CCC 1213)
We are eager and joyful to celebrate the sacrament of baptism with everyone who has been called to the waters of rebirth.
Whether you have felt God’s tug on your heart and have followed his prompting to ask for baptism for yourself or for your child, we will journey with you to make it a reality.
Baptism of a Child
When baptizing infants and young children, baptism is the priceless gift of faith that we, the parents and the Church, give to them. It is the responsibility of the parents and Godparents to tend to that gift by encouraging and nurturing the gift through active participation in the life of the parish and also bringing faith into your home.
Baptism Preparation Classes
The Baptism Preparation Class schedule through Summer 2020 has been finalized and is listed below. This class is built for parents or guardians who are having a child baptized for the first time. All parents or guardians must have this training before scheduling a first baptism. Instruction for baptisms of subsequent children is determined by the parents and pastoral minister of your parish. Also, anyone living outside of the Auburn area who wishes to have their child baptized here may do so. What is necessary is a letter from the family’s home-parish priest confirming that the appropriate preparation training has been completed. Any questions may be directed to your pastoral minister through your parish office.
Baptism Preparation Classes will be held at Sacred Heart Parish on Wednesdays at 7 pm on: 9/11/19, 11/13/19, 1/8/20, 3/11/20, 5/13/20, and 7/8/20.
Baptism of Adults
If you yourself are looking into the possibility of being baptized as a Christian in the Catholic Church then we will be overjoyed to make this journey with you. Adults who are seeking to be baptized take part in the process of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (the RCIA).
Where to begin: the first step is to sit down with St. Alphonsus’ Pastoral Minister, Aaron Wilson or with Fr. John for a simple, low-pressure conversation about your interest in being baptized and joining the Catholic Church and how we can help you on your journey. We can be reached at 315-252-7261.
